Rapper Erigga Warns Music Industry Losing Soul To Social Media Metrics.
According to Nivo News, rapper Erigga has raised concerns over the declining quality of music in the industry, attributing it to the increasing influence of tech gurus and social media influencers. In a recent interview, the Lagos-based artist criticized the replacement of traditional A&R (Artists and Repertoire) experts with tech professionals who prioritize numbers and trends over genuine talent.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Erigga explained that traditional A&Rs focused on discovering and nurturing artists, but tech-driven approaches emphasize metrics and short-term momentum instead of long-term artistry. “Everything began to spoil when the tech professionals entered the music scene, replacing experienced A&Rs who understood talent and knew how to cultivate it. Tech guys don’t care about the music; they care about numbers and metrics. They scout momentum, not talent. When the momentum drops, they move on to the next trend,” he said.
The rapper also highlighted how the presence of social media influencers has contributed to divided attention within the industry. He noted that the focus has shifted from healthy competition among artists to chasing trends and public attention. “In the past, an artist’s competition was other musicians. Now, you could release a hit track, but the public might get distracted by online feuds between influencers, taking attention away from your music,” Erigga lamented.
He urged creatives to prioritize genuine talent and quality over metrics and transient trends, emphasizing the need for a return to nurturing artistry in the industry.
