My 1997 Accident Made Me Who I Am Today” – Yinka Ayefele Opens Up.
According to Nivo News, renowned gospel singer and broadcaster Yinka Ayefele has described the 1997 car accident that left him confined to a wheelchair as the defining moment that completely reshaped his destiny.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during the 10th anniversary celebration of his radio station, Fresh 105.9 FM, held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Ibadan, Ayefele recounted how the tragic event redirected his path from jingle production into full-time music and broadcasting. The event was graced by journalists, government officials, and well-wishers from across the country.
The singer recalled that before the life-changing accident, he worked with Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, as a jingle producer and had just purchased a Volkswagen Beetle from his earnings. However, tragedy struck while driving to Abeokuta, Ogun State, in 1997, an incident that marked a new chapter in his life and career.
Ayefele revealed that his journey into establishing Fresh FM began with live-streaming sessions on Facebook, which gained immense popularity among Nigerians at home and abroad. Inspired by the overwhelming support, he decided to create a platform that would connect people through music and information.
He disclosed that securing a licence from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) was a seven-year battle filled with intense scrutiny, noting that few stations could have survived such a lengthy process.
Ayefele also spoke about the 2018 demolition of his Music House by the Oyo State Government under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, describing it as a painful experience that eventually turned into a blessing. According to him, the controversy brought his brand global recognition, and the building was later rebuilt by the government.
Reflecting on his journey, Ayefele said his struggles and triumphs have made him stronger, grateful, and more determined to use his platform to inspire others facing adversity.
