FG Set To Remap Nigeria For The First Time In 50 Years.

Published

on

The Federal Government has announced plans to undertake a comprehensive remapping of Nigeria for the first time in over five decades to enhance national planning, infrastructure development, and effective governance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, revealed the plan during an interview following his recent two-year tenure extension. He described the nationwide mapping initiative as one of his key priorities as he continues to lead the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF).

Adebomehin noted that the remapping exercise aligns with the United Nations’ recommendation for all countries to periodically update their maps to reflect developmental changes and population growth. He added that the project would directly support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by providing precise, data-driven insights to guide investment, urban development, and infrastructure planning.

He emphasized that accurate geospatial data remains the backbone of sustainable development, adding that the initiative would reposition OSGOF as a crucial institution in Nigeria’s development process.

The Surveyor-General explained that the National Geospatial Data Infrastructure (NGDI) will serve as the backbone of the remapping project. The NGDI, he said, will function as a digital repository containing key information on schools, hospitals, markets, farms, and industrial sites across the nation—making such data easily accessible to government agencies, private investors, and researchers.

Adebomehin recalled that Nigeria’s last extensive mapping project was conducted in the 1970s, stressing that the country’s physical and demographic landscape has since changed significantly due to urban expansion and infrastructural growth.

He further stated that the remapping will capture these transformations while also helping to define national and international boundaries more accurately, particularly with neighbouring countries such as Cameroon, Benin Republic, and Niger.

According to him, the exercise will leverage modern geospatial technologies and digital systems to ensure accuracy and accessibility, noting that mapping remains the cornerstone of every developmental process—informing policy design, infrastructure delivery, environmental management, and national security operations.

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
