“Hands Off Tunji-Ojo!” – NANS Urges Tinubu To Shield Minister From Malicious Attacks

Published

on

The Senate arm of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to shield the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, from what it described as fabricated and malicious National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) allegations aimed at tarnishing his image and distracting him from his duties.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, NANS praised Tunji-Ojo’s dedication to public service, describing him as a visionary and result-oriented leader whose commitment has continued to drive President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a statement signed by its Senate President, Usman Adamu Nagwaza, the student body condemned the “laughable and suspicious” allegations, stressing that such fabrications only surfaced after the minister’s groundbreaking achievements in office.

Nagwaza questioned the motives of those behind the smear campaign, asking where they were during Tunji-Ojo’s years of meritorious service in the House of Representatives, where he sponsored numerous impactful bills. He further wondered why these same individuals failed to raise any objections during the minister’s nomination, screening, and confirmation process, which underwent rigorous scrutiny.

He described the current controversy as a desperate and envious attempt to discredit a man who has been transforming the Ministry of Interior through innovative reforms and transparent leadership. NANS maintained that such falsehoods were merely distractions from the minister’s accomplishments, labeling them as a “failed smear campaign by frustrated detractors.”

The student body expressed disappointment over what it called the unpatriotic behavior of certain Nigerians who, instead of supporting national progress, engage in actions meant to destroy the reputations of hardworking public servants. It noted that Tunji-Ojo’s consistency, integrity, and achievements have made him a key figure in advancing the Renewed Hope vision of the current administration.

NANS urged President Tinubu to continue to stand by Tunji-Ojo and ensure he is protected from politically motivated attacks, warning that the orchestrated scandals were designed not only to discredit the minister but also to undermine the credibility and success of the administration itself.

The statement further commended President Tinubu’s foresight in appointing Tunji-Ojo, describing the decision as one of the most impactful of his tenure. It emphasized that the minister’s record-breaking reforms and dedication to service have justified the confidence reposed in him.

“Hon. Tunji-Ojo represents excellence, integrity, and the true spirit of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” NANS declared, calling on Nigerians to disregard the baseless NYSC allegations and instead celebrate his contributions to national development.

“South Has Had More Time In Power” — Atiku Speaks On Zoning Debate

Published

on

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has argued that the North is not disadvantaged in Nigeria’s power-sharing arrangement under democratic rule.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Atiku made the statement during an interview on Arise Television, where he spoke on zoning, fairness, and political balance in the country.

He noted that since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999, the South has held the presidency for about 18 years, while the North has governed for roughly 10 years.

According to him, this should be taken into account when discussing which region has benefited more from the country’s power rotation system. He also maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the only major political party with zoning clearly embedded in its constitution.

“The South has governed for 18 years and the North for 10. So who is really in deficit if we are being fair? Even more broadly, the only party with zoning formally entrenched is the PDP,” he said.

Atiku also recalled the constitutional conference held during the military era under General Sani Abacha, where he led a group that opposed the inclusion of rotational presidency in the constitution.

He said the proposal, championed by the late former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, was rejected at the time because his group had majority support among delegates.

According to him, Ekwueme later acknowledged that the decision may not have been ideal during his funeral years later. Atiku added that he now believes a rotational system, if adopted earlier, could have ensured a more balanced distribution of power across Nigeria’s regions.
