Wike Calls On Abuja Residents To Pay Taxes As Key To Transforming the Capital.
According to Nivo News, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. The appeal came on Monday during the inauguration of new road and drainage works in Asokoro Extension. Wike noted that tax revenue forms the backbone of government efforts to provide quality roads, drainages, streetlights, and other essential public facilities.
“Paying taxes is not just a civic responsibility, it is an investment in the collective well-being of the community,” Wike said. “All these good roads, drainages, and streetlights wouldn’t be possible without your contributions. Just like a well-prepared soup requires the right ingredients, a well-functioning city requires adequate funding.”
The Minister explained that these projects fall under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda, designed to position Abuja as a city capable of competing with other major cities worldwide. “What you see in developed cities is not magic; it is the result of dedicated leadership. That is what this administration is delivering in Abuja,” he added.
In the past ten days, Wike has launched multiple projects across the FCT, including roads, water systems, and streetlight installations. The Asokoro project, he noted, underscores the government’s commitment to developing every part of the capital.
“Proper road networks, drainages, and streetlights are essential for daily life. Once completed, Asokoro will become one of Abuja’s most beautiful districts,” he assured.
Wike also highlighted that the ongoing projects have generated employment opportunities for thousands of young Nigerians through construction firms engaged across the city. “Everywhere you look, construction activity is creating jobs. This is a key component of the Renewed Hope agenda,” he stated.
He further revealed that the FCT Administration will soon rehabilitate 40 schools and initiate new health sector projects. “We have prioritized transport, roads, sports, and education. Next, we are focusing on health. No sector will be left behind,” Wike emphasized.
The Minister urged residents to continue supporting the government’s initiatives and remain patient, stressing that meaningful progress requires time and resources. “The Abuja of two years ago is not the same as today, and the city of tomorrow will be even better,” he concluded.

Abioye Kamarudeen Adesina, the State Controller of Corrections, addressed attendees at the graduation event, noting that the initiative was put together through a collaboration between the Centre for Legal Support and Inmate Rehabilitation (CELSIR) and the Kastenbeelo Computer Training Institute.
According to Adesina, digital literacy will significantly enhance the participants’ prospects of securing a livelihood and achieving self-sufficiency upon re-entering society. He emphasized that rehabilitation is a foundational duty of the Correctional Service, asserting that individuals in custody must receive avenues to construct better futures. Furthermore, the Controller appealed for greater backing from non-governmental organizations, private entities, and other community partners to bolster these reintegration frameworks by supplying essential gear, instructional tools, and resources.
Addressing the newly graduated inmates directly, Adesina advised them to apply their newly gained expertise productively and maintain discipline to steer clear of behavior that might lead back to incarceration. Essential digital infrastructure, including laptops and a projector, was also donated to facilitate ongoing online learning for the inmates.
