“Nigeria’s Leasing Sector Gets Boost As ELAN Pushes Mandatory Lease Registration”.

Speaking during a capacity-building programme themed “Equipment Leasing: From Principle to Practice”, ELAN’s Executive Secretary, Andrew Emonuwa, emphasized that leasing remains a crucial financing option for businesses, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture, construction, transportation, healthcare and manufacturing. He noted that proper registration of lease agreements would boost transparency, provide credible industry data, bolster investor confidence, and aid government in policy formulation that supports the growth of the sector.
Emonuwa stressed that beyond fulfilling regulatory obligations, the registration of leases contributes to building a stronger financial ecosystem. He explained that compliance would drive capital formation, generate employment, and improve access to vital equipment for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which play a pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic development.
He commended ELRA’s efforts in enhancing regulation, compliance, and stakeholder engagement, saying such measures are positioning the leasing industry for greater contribution to economic diversification.
In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer of ELRA, Donald Wokoma, welcomed the collaboration with ELAN, describing it as a win-win for all stakeholders. He maintained that the partnership would strengthen regulatory oversight, encourage industry cooperation, and establish leasing as a key driver of sustainable growth.
Wokoma reaffirmed ELRA’s commitment under the Federal Ministry of Finance to foster transparency, innovation and accountability in the sector, while ensuring an enabling environment that maximizes the leasing industry’s contribution to national development. He added that the training programme was designed to equip staff with the knowledge and tools required to implement policies effectively, strengthen collaboration, and promote best practices across the industry.

-
Advocacy for Amnesty: He questioned why IPOB members cannot renounce violence and seek government amnesty and rehabilitation, similar to the programs offered to repentant terrorists and bandits in northern Nigeria.
-

The Incident: Approximately an hour after the meeting, Risku and an associate were intercepted and fatally shot in Okudu village.
