The campaign invites Nigerians—students and graduates alike—to post 80-second videos on social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and X, recounting the story of a teacher whose influence has left a lasting mark. Participants are required to mention the teacher’s name, their school, tag Wema Bank, and include the hashtags #WemaAt80TeachersDay and #TeachersWithALegacyOfImpact to be part of the celebration.
The initiative allows tributes to teachers from all levels of education—primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions—highlighting the broad spectrum of educators who have impacted countless lives.
Wema Bank’s Managing Director, Moruf Oseni, described teachers as “the quiet architects of every nation’s future,” noting that their resilience and sacrifice have nurtured innovators, leaders, and change-makers. He stressed that the initiative is aimed at ensuring educators are celebrated not just with words, but with recognition that preserves their legacies.
The Teachers’ Day Challenge has become a signature tradition for Wema Bank. Over the past two years, ten exceptional teachers across Nigeria have been honoured with a cumulative N13 million in cash and gifts. This year, ten teachers will again be shortlisted, with three receiving major cash prizes and others receiving complimentary rewards.
Head of Corporate Sustainability, Abimbola Agbejule, explained that this year’s challenge holds special significance as it coincides with Wema Bank’s 80th anniversary. She noted that beyond the prizes, the initiative is a movement to inspire gratitude and storytelling, encouraging Nigerians to publicly acknowledge the mentors and educators who shaped their lives.
As Wema Bank marks eight decades of impact, the Teachers’ Day Challenge reinforces its commitment to education, empowerment, and sustainability, ensuring that teachers—nation-builders in their own right—are honoured for their enduring contributions to society.

Prisoner Feeding Crisis: NCoS Demands Massive Hike To ₦3,000 Per Inmate Amid Economic Woes!.
The Federal Government is moving to raise the daily feeding allowance for inmates across Nigeria from ₦750 to ₦3,000. This decision follows recommendations from an independent panel that examined allegations of corruption and human rights abuses within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS). The panel submitted its final report to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on June 3, 2026.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Panel Investigation and Findings
Established in September 2024, the committee spent months investigating the correctional system by inspecting 86 facilities across 23 states and the FCT, holding public hearings, and visiting Türkiye. The investigation uncovered several critical issues regarding inmate welfare:
-
Malnutrition and Inadequate Funding: Feeding was identified as a major concern, with investigations revealing that inadequate budgets and poor resource management led to severe malnutrition and grossly insufficient food portions.
-
Regional Reports: In Imo State, the Owerri Correctional Centre reportedly provided severely limited food, while in Akwa Ibom State, poor feeding was linked to inmate deaths.
-
Contract Irregularities: The panel uncovered that many feeding contracts were awarded to companies located far from the facilities they served, leading to subcontracting arrangements where feeding responsibilities were passed down at rates far below government-approved levels.
-
Conflict of Interest: There were allegations that retired and serving correctional officers, politicians, and other influential figures were connected to the feeding contract process.
-
Systemic Concerns: The report noted that individuals benefiting from these supply contracts might be disincentivized from supporting prison decongestion or agricultural initiatives that would reduce reliance on outside vendors.
Recommendations and Future Reforms
To address these challenges, the panel provided several recommendations aimed at improving the correctional system:
-
Increased Allowance: An immediate increase in the daily feeding allowance to ₦3,000 per inmate to align with current economic conditions.
-
Infrastructure Improvement: Modernizing correctional farm centres to boost internal food production and decrease dependence on external suppliers.
-
Enhanced Accountability: Strengthening transparency in contract administration to improve inmate welfare and support broader systemic reforms.
