Buhari, Yar’Adua Honored in New Book on Katsina’s Eminent Sons
ABUJA, Nigeria — Former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua have been recognized in a newly launched book celebrating the lives and achievements of prominent figures from Katsina State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The book, unveiled in Abuja on Wednesday, highlights the contributions of Katsina’s most influential sons across politics, education, business, and public service. Among the names given special attention are Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, and Yar’Adua, who served as president from 2007 until his death in 2010.
The publication, titled Katsina’s Eminent Sons, was written to document the state’s role in producing national leaders and inspiring future generations. Organizers said the project aims to preserve history and showcase individuals who shaped Nigeria’s growth.
Speaking at the launch, the editors said Buhari and Yar’Adua represent two different but important eras in Nigeria’s democratic journey. Yar’Adua is remembered for his “rule of law” agenda and reforms in the oil sector, while Buhari is noted for his anti-corruption stance and efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security forces.
The event drew politicians, academics, and traditional rulers from across the country. Several speakers praised the book as a timely reminder of Katsina’s legacy in national leadership.
“This work is not just about history. It is about inspiring the next generation to understand the value of service, sacrifice, and leadership,” one of the editors said. “Katsina has produced leaders who left their mark on Nigeria, and this book ensures their stories are not forgotten.”
Family members of both presidents were also in attendance. They expressed gratitude for the recognition and called on Nigerians to continue building on the values promoted by the late Yar’Adua and Buhari during their years in public service.
Katsina State, located in northwestern Nigeria, has long played a central role in the country’s politics. In addition to producing two presidents, the state is home to several other national figures, including ministers, governors, and lawmakers. Analysts say the book adds to Nigeria’s growing body of work on political history and the contributions of different regions.
Observers noted that the recognition of Buhari and Yar’Adua comes at a time when Nigeria continues to face economic and security challenges. Some participants at the launch said the examples set by both leaders could offer lessons for today’s policymakers.
“Leadership is about integrity, fairness, and commitment to the people,” a university lecturer said at the event. “That is why documenting the lives of Buhari and Yar’Adua is so important. It allows us to reflect on where we are coming from and where we need to go.”
The late Yar’Adua, Nigeria’s 13th president, was the first civilian leader to publicly declare his assets when taking office. He is remembered for initiating the amnesty program in the Niger Delta, which reduced violence in the oil-rich region. Buhari, who succeeded Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, is credited with launching major infrastructure projects and increasing Nigeria’s focus on agriculture and local production.
The book also features other notable Katsina natives who played roles in the judiciary, diplomacy, and traditional leadership. It seeks to provide a wide view of the state’s contributions to Nigeria’s development since independence in 1960.
Copies of the book will be distributed to libraries, universities, and government institutions nationwide. The editors said they hope it will serve as both an educational resource and an inspiration for young Nigerians.
“This book is a mirror,” one contributor said. “It shows us who we are, where we have come from, and what we can achieve if we dedicate ourselves to service.”
The launch ended with a call for more regional histories to be written, ensuring that Nigeria’s diversity and leadership traditions are properly recorded for future generations.

Benin Republic Foils Coup: Military Arrests 13 Soldiers Behind Failed Takeover.

The arrests came after a group of officers, calling themselves the Military Committee for Refoundation, appeared on national television on Sunday morning, claiming to have removed President Patrice Talon and dissolved all state institutions. The officers asserted that they had seized control of the government.
The presidency, however, confirmed that President Talon is safe and that loyalist forces are restoring order. Authorities described the coup attempt as the work of “a small group” with limited reach, adding that the city and the country remain secure.
Regional bloc ECOWAS has condemned the attempted takeover, describing it as a serious and unacceptable challenge to the democratic will of the people. In a statement issued in Abuja, the Commission called for strict adherence to the country’s Constitution and praised the efforts of the government and the Republican Army in regaining control. ECOWAS warned that the plot’s leaders would be held accountable for any loss of life or property arising from their actions and reaffirmed its full support for Benin, including potential deployment of the regional standby force if necessary.

Atiku described the encounter as a pleasure, stating, “It was a pleasure catching up with former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday evening, following his recent return from Guinea-Bissau.”
Separately, Atiku’s Senior Political Assistant, Olarenwaju, attributed the former Vice President’s actions against Jonathan in 2015 to a breach of a gentleman’s agreement. Speaking during an Space discussion titled “APC Must Go,” Olarenwaju explained that his alignment with Atiku was motivated by a broader vision for Nigeria’s progress. He said, “Most of the answers I’m going to give tonight are not just based on my deliberations with Atiku, they are based on my desire for a better Nigeria. At the end of the day, if Nigeria is better, my life is better and easier as a Nigerian. So I only find myself with Atiku; in 2015, I didn’t find myself with Atiku, I found myself on the side of Goodluck Jonathan.”
