“Nigeria’s 65th Independence Gift: Homegrown Electric Buses Driving A Clean Transit Future”
As Nigeria celebrates 65 years of independence, conversations are shifting from political sovereignty to true economic freedom, with local industry and clean technology at the center of this new vision. In the transport sector, NEV Electric Ltd is fast becoming a trailblazer, leveraging homegrown manufacturing and renewable energy to tackle the country’s mass transit challenges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
For decades, Nigeria’s public transport system has been dependent on imported vehicles and fossil fuels, leaving operators and commuters vulnerable to fluctuating fuel prices and rising costs. According to industry watchers, NEV Electric is rewriting that narrative through a model that combines local assembly, domestic content growth, and sustainable infrastructure.
The company currently produces electric buses with 30% Nigerian content — including materials, components, and local labor — with a strategic roadmap to achieve 70% in the near future as supply chains deepen. This approach not only reduces foreign dependency but also channels value into the domestic economy, spurring industrialization, job creation, and technology transfer.
“True independence means being able to design, build, and power what we need with our own hands,” said Mosope Olaosebikan, Founder of NEV Electric. “We’re not just assembling buses; we’re building Nigeria’s transport future — powered by clean energy, local innovation, and sustainable systems.”
So far, more than 120 electric buses have been assembled locally, with expansion plans to deliver 300 units in the next production phase. The company is also installing 160kW ultra-fast charging stations across Abuja and Lagos — the largest of their kind in Nigeria — to support large-scale fleet adoption and ease operators’ range concerns.
In a move to make electric mobility financially accessible, NEV Electric has launched a Pay-As-You-Drive scheme, allowing operators and government agencies to transition into electric fleets without huge upfront capital. The package integrates access to buses, charging infrastructure, maintenance, and battery services into one predictable payment, smoothing the path toward widespread EV adoption.
Beyond production, NEV Electric is investing in capacity building through training programs for Nigerian engineers and technicians in EV assembly, maintenance, and retrofitting — cultivating a skilled workforce to support the green economy.
Aligned with Nigeria’s industrialization agenda, the company aims to transform the nation into a hub for electric mobility across Africa. With export plans already in motion, NEV Electric is positioning its locally built buses and technology solutions for the wider African market, advancing the continent’s clean transport future.
By merging local manufacturing, reliable infrastructure, and innovative financing, NEV Electric is offering a uniquely Nigerian solution to urban transport needs — cutting emissions, lowering operational costs, and boosting national capacity.
“Every bus we build is a statement of what’s possible,” Olaosebikan added. “We’re proving that Nigeria can lead Africa’s clean mobility revolution — not by importing the future, but by building it.”

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
