Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has called on Nigerians to vote out President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general elections. • Criticism of Governance: Tambuwal blamed the current administration for failing to address the nation’s challenges, specifically highlighting worsening insecurity, such as recent terrorist attacks in Sokoto State and Bodinga, as evidence of poor governance.

  • Political Allegations: He claimed the ruling establishment is unsettled by the ADC’s growing influence, alleging that President Tinubu has been “having sleepless nights” due to the party’s strength and the perceived threat posed by Atiku Abubakar.

  • The ADC’s Appeal: Tambuwal argued that politicians prioritizing national interest over personal gain choose the ADC, despite the pressure and reluctance associated with leaving the ruling APC.

  • Call for Decorum: Commending Kalanjeni for his “heroic” decision to resign from the APC and his elective office, Tambuwal urged ADC members to maintain a disciplined approach by avoiding name-calling, insults, or disrespectful rhetoric.

Wike-Backed Faction Nomination

The faction supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, has reportedly selected Babangida Umaru, the party’s National Vice-Chairman (North-East), as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Sandy Onor.

  • According to a senior official, the party leadership settled on Umaru following extensive stakeholder consultations.

  • The details for this ticket have already been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

  • PDP National Publicity Secretary Mohammed Jungudo confirmed the submission of presidential and vice-presidential candidates but stopped short of officially confirming Umaru’s name, stating that only announcements from the National Chairman or himself are official.

  • The party has also completed its National Assembly candidate uploads and is now preparing for the upcoming governorship and state Assembly nomination processes.

Turaki-Led Faction Response

  • Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong stated that the faction is unconcerned with the activities of the Wike-backed leadership at the Wadata Plaza secretariat.

  • While the Turaki faction currently lacks access to the INEC portal, Ememobong insisted that the “abnormalities” regarding their nomination procedure will be corrected in due time.

INEC Deadline

Political parties are required to submit their presidential and National Assembly candidate nominations via the INEC portal by 6:00 PM on July 11, 2026, in compliance with Section 29(1) of the 2026 Electoral Act.
