The toddler’s mother reported that Kini reportedly abducted her son on September 21, fleeing with the child and the family’s mobile phone. The suspect allegedly used the stolen phone to contact the child’s father, demanding a ransom of N5 million for the child’s release.

The Lagos Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that an investigation began immediately after the complaint was lodged, leading to the suspect’s arrest on September 23. SP Adebisi explained that sustained operational pressure, intelligence gathering, and coordinated surveillance eventually compelled the suspect to release the child. Despite this, the police continued their manhunt, ultimately tracking Kini to a hideout in Elemoro where he was arrested. Kini has confessed to the crime and remains in custody as investigations continue. He will be charged to court once the inquiry is concluded.
