Edo Mourns: Governor Okpebholo Pays Tribute To Late Ex-Police DIG Osayande.

According to Nivo News, the governor, in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Sunday, September 28, 2025, said the passing of the former police chief was a monumental loss to Edo State and Nigeria as a whole. He extended heartfelt condolences to the Osayande family, the Benin Kingdom, and the people of Edo State, noting that the late DIG’s contributions to peace and security will remain indelible in the nation’s history.
Governor Okpebholo hailed Osayande as a man of courage, discipline, and justice, recalling his remarkable exploits as Commissioner of Police in the defunct Bendel State, where he confronted and dismantled dangerous armed gangs of the 1980s. He emphasized that those decisive actions set a benchmark for policing excellence in the country.
He further highlighted Osayande’s impact beyond frontline operations, praising his reformist ideas and intellectual contributions to the Nigeria Police Force. Even in retirement, the late DIG remained a national asset, lending his experience to various presidential and police reform committees, where his commitment to restructuring the police for better service delivery was evident.
Governor Okpebholo described him as a true son of Edo who represented his people with pride and distinction in every capacity he served. He prayed for the repose of Osayande’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends, and associates the strength to bear the painful loss.
