The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday in Lagos. The crash, which happened around 6:55 a.m., involved a white Iveco truck with registration number MEK 34 XC and a white Toyota commercial bus with registration number ENU 814 XJ.
Jayeola disclosed that one male passenger died on the spot, while nine others—eight men and one woman—sustained varying degrees of injuries. She noted that no passenger escaped unscathed. The FRSC rescue team promptly evacuated the victims to the Emergency Centre in Ojota and Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to the Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo. The accident scene was cleared swiftly to restore free traffic flow.
She further stated that the vehicles involved had been handed over to officers of the MTD Police, Ojodu Abiodun Division, as investigations continue. Preliminary findings indicated that speeding and road obstruction were the major causes of the crash.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery. He emphasized that speeding remains a leading cause of avoidable accidents, especially during the ember months, and urged drivers to exercise patience and remain focused while on the road. Hamzat also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring safer highways and the protection of lives and property nationwide.
