Azibaola Robert, cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has refuted claims suggesting that Jonathan has withdrawn from consideration for the 2027 presidential race.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Reports had earlier circulated alleging that the Otuoke-born statesman had ruled himself out of the contest in a bid to maintain Southern political unity. However, Robert clarified that Jonathan has made no such declaration and remains silent on whether he intends to seek office.

Although Jonathan has yet to officially announce his candidacy, political analysts point to ongoing nationwide consultations as signs of a possible second-term bid.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Robert dismissed a report attributed to Newsweek Nigeria as “fake and misleading.” The article, titled “Jonathan Rejects Pressure to Contest in 2027, Says he won’t be used against Southern unity,” claimed an unnamed aide confirmed Jonathan’s decision not to run — an aide Robert insisted does not exist.

According to Robert, the former president has not ruled out his participation in the 2027 election, nor has he confirmed it. He added that Jonathan would not be swayed by individuals urging him to step aside for reasons he described as selfish.

“The former president has not told anyone that he will not contest when the time for election is ripe,” Robert emphasized, urging the public to disregard any reports suggesting otherwise.

The APC said the claim was a deliberate attempt to create confusion and damage the image of the party, stressing that no recognised structure within the party in Kano had taken such a decision.

It further stated that the so-called group does not represent the views or interests of APC members in the state and is not recognised within the party hierarchy.
