Health Advocates Demand Crackdown On Junk Food To Stem Disease Surge
A non-governmental organisation, Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA), has called for collective action and stronger regulations to curb the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. According to Nivo News, the group warned that the prevalence of unhealthy foods is fueling a health crisis that requires systemic intervention rather than individual effort.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
CAPPA’s Assistant Executive Director, Zikora Ibeh, speaking at the Nigerian Food Festival during the Youth Boot Camp for Food Justice 2025 at Ikogosi Warm and Cold Springs Resort, Ekiti State, said urgent legislation is needed to regulate the promotion and consumption of harmful foods. She noted that unhealthy products are currently marketed without restraint, contributing to the surge in diet-related diseases.
Ibeh urged the government to enforce clear and simple front-of-pack labeling to help Nigerians make informed dietary choices. “People should easily know if a product is high in salt, sugar, or unhealthy fat without needing expert knowledge,” she said, adding that CAPPA is working with the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to promote healthier food standards.
The food festival showcased nutritious Nigerian dishes and trained 60 youth participants on preparing healthy meals to strengthen their advocacy for food justice. CAPPA Associate Director, Abayomi Sarumi, stressed that young people must lead the campaign for effective policies, warning that more youths are now being diagnosed with illnesses previously associated with older and wealthier individuals.
He explained that the programme aims to build a nationwide youth movement to demand policies that expand access to healthy food options. The Director-General of the Ekiti State Office of Development Partnership, Abiodun Oyeleye, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to food security and praised CAPPA’s choice of Ekiti as a venue, describing the state as a hub for organic and natural produce.
Oyeleye said food justice initiatives are vital to educating young Nigerians about healthy eating, which ultimately boosts human productivity and well-being.

THE FINAL SHOWDOWN! IPOB Declares Expulsion Of Edoziem-led DOS As The Last Hurdle Before Biafra Emerges!.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has informed its members that the organization is currently engaged in a final, decisive internal struggle preceding the establishment of a Biafra state. This message was conveyed in a leaked memo titled, “This Is the Final Decisive Battle for the Heart and Soul of IPOB – Biafra Emerges Victorious,” issued by the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
-
Expelled Leadership: It accuses the former Directorate of State (DOS), led by Chika Edoziem, of attempting to hijack IPOB on behalf of the Nigerian government.
-
PENETRATION BY STATE AGENTS: The memo alleges that the Nigerian government infiltrated the DOS through a lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and Chinasa Nworu.
-
GOVERNOR’S CONSPIRACY: It claims Anambra State governor Chukwuma Soludo, alongside South-East governors and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, is plotting against IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to prevent his release.
-
SUPPRESSION EFFORTS: The memo asserts that Soludo initiated “Operation Demystify Nnamdi Kanu” to counter Kanu’s rising global recognition, allegedly using bribes and activated compromised elements within IPOB to launch attacks and create distractions.
The document argues that despite Kanu establishing the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to protect Igboland from bandits, he faces malicious opposition from Igbo governors collaborating with the dismissed DOS. It alleges that insecurity narratives are manufactured by politicians to justify Kanu’s incarceration and the ESN’s destruction.
Furthermore, the memo claims that the Nigerian Army uses misinformation to undermine IPOB’s successes and manipulate Igbos against their own interests.
Emma Powerful urged IPOB members to reject the exposed traitors and moles, framing this as a final internal cleansing. He declared that these efforts to prevent Biafra’s birth have failed and that Nnamdi Kanu remains the sole leader with firm support from Alaigbo. The memo concludes with a confident assertion of inevitable victory.
