“Tinubu Over Obi Any Day – Adeyanju Drops Political Bombshell”
Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has explained why he would choose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Labour Party’s Peter Obi if both men contest in the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an interview monitored by Nivo News, Adeyanju said his preference was not rooted in loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress but in his personal convictions about democracy, tolerance and political conduct.
“Why would somebody like me support the APC? Support the APC for what? If the opposition presents Peter Obi, I will vote Tinubu,” he said, accusing some of Obi’s supporters of intolerance and online harassment of dissenting voices.
Adeyanju rejected claims that he is working with the APC to weaken the opposition, maintaining that his political interventions have always been independent. He recalled voting across party lines in past elections, citing his choices of Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999, Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 and 2015, and Omoyele Sowore in 2023.
According to him, his opposition to Obi stems from his experience with what he described as political extremism during the 2023 campaigns. He alleged that many of Obi’s supporters targeted critics with threats and insults, citing the attacks on veteran actress Joke Silva for backing Tinubu.
Adeyanju noted that he initially welcomed Obi’s candidacy as a chance for the South-East to produce a president, but said his enthusiasm waned as the campaign progressed. He stressed that his activism has consistently defended democracy and free expression, even at personal cost, recalling past arrests and prosecutions under various governments.
The activist maintained that his stance against Obi should not be mistaken for partisanship. “We cannot have a country where political extremism becomes the order of the day,” Adeyanju said, warning that a divided opposition would only strengthen the APC’s hold on power.
