Nine Suspects Face Federal Charges Over Deadly Benue And Plateau Attacks
The Federal Government, through the Department of State Services (DSS), has filed multiple charges against nine individuals accused of involvement in recent deadly attacks in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, and parts of Plateau State. According to a charge filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, and endorsed by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Muhammad Abubakar, the attacks on Abinsi and Yelwata villages on June 13, 2025, were allegedly carried out by Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi of Awe LGA, Nasarawa State, in collaboration with others still at large. Additional suspects named include Musa Beniyon, Bako Malowa, Ibrahim Tunga, Asara Ahnadu, Legu Musa, Adamu Yale, Boddi Ayuba, and Pyeure Damina. They face allegations under Sections 12 and 29 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.
In a separate case, two individuals, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede of Guma LGA, were charged with three counts related to reprisal attacks in Abinsi and Yelwata, which involved destruction of property and loss of livestock. They were also accused of conspiring to carry out further terrorist acts during a July 2025 meeting in Daudu town and of receiving firearms from an individual identified as Alhaji Uba.
A 32-year-old woman, Halima Haliru Umar of Faskari LGA, Katsina State, faces a four-count terrorism charge for allegedly transporting 302 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition to bandits and concealing information about a suspected gun runner.
Separately, 75-year-old Nanbol Tali and Timnan Manjo were charged with unlawful dealing in arms, having reportedly bought and sold firearms for resale to bandits. Danjuma Antu of Jos North LGA, Plateau State, faces charges for unlawful possession of two locally fabricated pistols, while Silas Iduh Oloche of Agatu LGA, Benue State, was charged for unlawful possession of grenades and hundreds of rounds of live ammunition.
All cases, covering terrorism and unlawful possession of arms, have been filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, although dates for the defendants’ arraignment have not yet been set.
