Otti Vows To Complete Road Projects Amid Seaport Delay Clarifications
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has reassured residents of Ukwa East that his administration will see through all ongoing road projects in the area. Otti made the remarks while receiving a delegation from the Ezumezu Ndoki Patriotic Association, who visited his office to express concerns about stalled road constructions and the proposed seaport project. “Regarding the roads you mentioned, no project under our watch will be abandoned midway,” the governor affirmed.
He provided updates on key routes, including the Akirikaobu road, which begins in Obingwa and extends into Akwa Ibom State. “Construction on the Akirikaobu route is ongoing, and upon completion, it will extend to Akwa Ibom State,” Otti stated.
Addressing concerns about the Obohia road, the governor acknowledged prior setbacks but confirmed that work had resumed. “Obohia road experienced challenges initially, but most have been resolved. Construction is actively ongoing. The previous administration awarded the project to Heartland, but it was left incomplete. I engaged with them to resume work, and they are now back on site. Some structural issues required a new tunnel, which we are constructing to better manage water flow into the Aba River,” he explained.
Regarding the proposed seaport, Otti clarified that work has not yet commenced due to funding considerations, despite feasibility studies submitted by Chinese partners. “I initiated the seaport project idea, and feasibility reports indicate significant dredging is required—about 19.5 kilometres to the high sea. This is beyond the scope of initial estimates, requiring substantial investment. We are ensuring the project is viable and fully funded before commencement to avoid midway delays or abandonment,” he said.
The governor expressed gratitude to Ukwa East residents for their continued support and urged them to consider his administration as their own.
Earlier, the Mayor of Ukwa East, Chibunna Akara, commended the governor’s performance, noting the residents’ readiness to back his initiatives. High Chief I. N. Ahunanya, President of the Ezumezu Ndoki Patriotic Association, also lauded Otti’s infrastructural drive, pledging support for his 2027 re-election while urging prioritization of stalled road projects and the seaport development.
