Speaking at the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who represented his colleagues, warned party leaders to resist any divisive schemes. Mohammed, who chaired the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting held in Zamfara on Saturday, said both the gathering and other party structures were focused on strengthening internal unity.

“We are learning from each other to deliver the dividends of democracy and avoid the shenanigans pervading the political space,” Mohammed said. “We have worked hard to make our party the choice of Nigerians by showing restraint, capacity, and unity. However, we have received credible information that some of our state-level leaders may be targeted by security agencies to create disaffection. We must remain united.”

He added that, through the intervention of governors and party elders, all outstanding congress disputes had been resolved, and necessary communications had been completed with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, in his remarks, praised the party’s resilience and focus despite the country’s political and economic challenges. He noted that Nigerians continue to view the PDP as the only credible alternative capable of restoring hope, equity, and justice.

“The confidence Nigerians have in us reflects the responsibility we carry as a party,” Damagum said. “From one convention to the next, the PDP has consistently demonstrated internal democracy, inclusivity, and collective decision-making.”

On the issue of women’s participation in politics, Damagum reiterated the PDP’s support for a proposed bill seeking to reserve seats for women in the National Assembly. He maintained that no political party has empowered women more than the PDP, urging delegates to ensure greater female representation during the party’s national convention in November.

“Women have always been the backbone of this party, mobilising support, defending the vote, and standing firm when it matters most,” Damagum said. “Inclusivity remains central to our values.”
