A well-known Abia State entertainer, Nwandinma Dickson, popularly called “Nwayi Garri,” tragically collapsed and died on Monday while performing at an annual August meeting in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area. Nwandinma, aged 65 and a native of Oza Umuebukwu in the Nneji Autonomous Community, was billed to participate in a cultural dance and drama performance when the incident occurred. Dressed in her performance costume, she had been moving between canopies, exchanging greetings and entertaining guests with her trademark theatrical steps as the crowd awaited the arrival of Mrs. Otti.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the entertainer stooped momentarily before collapsing, with many initially assuming it was part of her act. Applause quickly turned to alarm when she failed to move, and bystanders noticed she was unresponsive. The Mayor of Ugwunagbo LGA reportedly rushed her to a nearby hospital in his vehicle, where doctors confirmed her death on arrival.

Sources at the event revealed that the performer appeared to foam at the mouth as she lay motionless, further shocking the audience. Family members later confirmed that Nwandinma had initially been hesitant to attend the meeting but eventually agreed to honour her commitment to perform.
