Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has offered fresh insight into the high-profile transfer saga in which he rejected a €200 million bid from Paris Saint-Germain for Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Napoli chief disclosed that the funds would have been used to pursue Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, but he stood by his promise to keep the star players. “I could have sold him at that moment. PSG had offered over €200m for Kvara and Osimhen,” De Laurentiis reportedly said. “However, I had promised Conte I would keep him, and I didn’t feel like going back on my word.”
De Laurentiis also addressed Kvaratskhelia’s eventual January move to PSG for €75 million, admitting that the transfer was largely driven by the player’s agent, Mamuka Jugeli, who allegedly threatened to invoke FIFA’s Article 17 to force an exit. He revealed that Napoli had offered a lucrative contract extension after the Georgian’s sensational debut season, but Jugeli resisted, allegedly delaying talks during Euro 2024 and accusing former sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli of breaking promises.
Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia were instrumental in Napoli’s historic 2022–2023 Serie A title run, ending the club’s 33-year wait for the Scudetto. Osimhen emerged as the league’s top scorer, while Kvaratskhelia was named MVP for his dazzling displays.
The dynamic partnership has since been dismantled. Kvaratskhelia joined PSG in a record winter transfer, while Osimhen completed a permanent €75 million move to Galatasaray this summer following an initial loan spell.
