Dangote Fires Back At Corruption Allegations: “My Money Is Clean”

Published

on

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, has rejected allegations that he leverages his influence to suppress competition. The billionaire stressed that his achievements stem from strategic investments and entrepreneurship rather than preferential treatment or restrictive policies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Recent reports highlighted claims that some of Dangote’s major successes occurred in sectors with import restrictions, such as sugar and cement. Past criticisms, including a 2007 cable from then-US Consul General Brian Browne later published by WikiLeaks, suggested that Dangote benefited from a system that limited competition in his favor. Browne reportedly described him as a “predator” in a politically corrupt environment and noted that many items on Nigeria’s import ban lists aligned with Dangote’s business interests.

Responding to the claims, Dangote pointed out that the products in question were not banned at the time. He emphasized that his success is rooted in identifying opportunities that others overlooked. “If you are going to call first movers into business monopolists, then you will never establish a manufacturing base, or you’ll never establish anything that you call a country,” he said.

Dangote also reflected on the challenges of establishing his $20 billion oil refinery, citing Nigeria’s limited public infrastructure and the need to provide nearly all services independently. “Right from the beginning of building the refinery, we realised that nobody could provide us with any service. You have to provide almost everything by yourself,” he said, adding, “If I knew what I was going to go through, I wouldn’t have tried it.”

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Dangote’s net worth has increased by approximately $1 billion over the past three months to $28 billion, fueled by the refinery’s ramp-up, which has positioned Nigeria as a net exporter of petroleum products for the first time in three decades.

He firmly denied any impropriety, including preferential access to foreign exchange for the refinery project. “We have made our money clean. We are not part of the corruption. We are part of the problem-solving,” Dangote asserted.

Beyond The Reach Of Power: Omole Reveals Why State Police Won’t Be Tinubu’s Rigging Tool.

Published

on

Charles Omole, the Director-General of the Institute for Police and Security Policy Research (IPSPR), has rejected claims that President Bola Tinubu is advocating for state police to manipulate the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Logistical Impossibility: Omole stated that it is practically impossible to establish functional state police services before the next general election, citing the complex constitutional, legal, and operational processes involved.

  • Debunking Rigging Allegations: He argued that the theory of using state police to rig elections is illogical, noting that it would be far simpler for a President to utilize a single police force already under their control rather than creating and managing 36 separate state police services.

  • Strategic Objectives: Omole suggested that the President’s primary goal is likely to finalize the legal framework for state policing during his current term, ensuring a smooth transition to implementation should he win a second term.

  • Need for Reform: He emphasized the necessity of a federal technical team to properly redesign policing, warning that merely replicating the current Nigeria Police structure at the state level—without addressing jurisdictional and operational challenges—could exacerbate existing security issues.

The proposed legislation, which has passed through the House and Senate, aims to amend Section 214 of the Constitution to formally establish both federal and state police services.

While some retailers currently sell to consumers at prices between ₦1,600 and ₦1,800 per kg, marketers remain optimistic that if local supply and imports remain consistent, prices may continue to decrease in the coming weeks.
