Veteran Nollywood actor Fabian Adibe, celebrated for his portrayal in the 1987 television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, has passed away after a brief illness. While initial reports did not disclose the cause of death, his daughter, Nkechi, confirmed in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday that the revered actor died following a short illness. “With a heavy heart, I’m sharing that Chief Fabian Adibe, my dad, passed away after a brief illness. He was the best father anyone could think of. May God grant him eternal rest and peace,” she wrote.
Born on December 1, 1943, in Owerri, Imo State, Adibe was an iconic figure in Nigerian cinema. He studied Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan, where he honed his craft before embarking on a career that spanned several decades.
Though best remembered for his breakthrough role in Things Fall Apart, Adibe built a prolific acting legacy, starring in numerous Nollywood classics such as Broken Plate, Evil Desire, Peacemaker, Oke Belgium, The Prince and The Princess, Honourable, Billionaires Club, and Fire on the Mountain. His passing marks the end of an era for Nollywood and leaves a void deeply felt by fans and colleagues alike.
