Road Alert: LASG Begins Traffic Diversion For Critical Bridge Works
According to Nivo News, the Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area, following the successful completion of the first phase.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The second phase, which involves restoring the bridge’s expansion joints on the inbound Lagos Island section, is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and run through October 1, 2025.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, stated in a release on Sunday that motorists travelling along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate axis inbound Oshodi and Victoria Island would experience a controlled diversion at the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge.
According to the statement signed by LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, traffic will be funneled into a single lane about 50 metres before the work zone, with full road access resuming 50 metres beyond the site.
Motorists heading to Oshodi are advised to use the Ojota Slip Road linking to Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Taxi Park), while those bound for Victoria Island can divert through Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Town Planning Way), continue to Gbagada, and access the Third Mainland Bridge. An additional alternative via Ikorodu Road inbound Funsho Williams Avenue also provides direct entry to Eko Bridge en route to Lagos Island.
Drivers coming from Ikeja and surrounding areas may use Maryland to connect Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue and proceed through Eko Bridge to Outer Marina and adjoining routes, or link Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Taxi Park) to Oshodi to continue their journey.
Bakare-Oki confirmed that LASTMA officers have been strategically deployed along the affected routes to maintain smooth traffic flow, enforce lane discipline, and ensure rapid emergency response. He urged all motorists to remain patient, responsible, and law-abiding, stressing that the partial bridge closure is a necessary step in the state’s long-term traffic management strategy aimed at delivering sustainable infrastructure improvements for Lagos residents.

Political Earthquake: Ex-Minister Pantami Stuns APC With Surprise Endorsement Of PDP’s Tenure!.
Isa Pantami, who served as the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy during the Muhammadu Buhari administration, has defended his recent move to become the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Gombe State. Despite his history as a vocal critic of the PDP, Pantami explained that his decision was motivated by the party’s development track record in the state between 2003 and 2019. He noted that the party’s governance was responsible for transforming Gombe from a rural environment into urban settlements, citing various road networks, health facilities, and higher education institutions as evidence of this legacy.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Pantami secured the PDP governorship ticket via a voice vote just days after leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His departure from the APC followed his rejection of a consensus candidate arrangement supported by Governor Inuwa Yahaya. His new candidacy, which is reportedly linked to the influence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and former Gombe Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, has faced backlash and protests from other PDP aspirants who opposed the selection process.
Proposed Policy Agenda
Looking toward the future, Pantami stated that his administration would prioritize human development and aim to improve living conditions in Gombe. He expressed alarm over the state’s economic status, referencing the National Multidimensional Poverty Index which ranks Gombe as the third-poorest state in the country. To address this, he proposed the following initiatives:
-
Economic Reform: Implementing strategies to lift residents out of poverty through industrialization, agriculture, and attracting foreign direct investment.
-
Youth and Education: Focusing on education and skills development to create jobs for the youth.
-
Social Welfare: Launching state-sponsored welfare programs specifically designed to support orphans and vulnerable groups.
Pantami’s sudden defection and nomination are anticipated to significantly alter the political landscape in Gombe as the 2027 election approaches.
