Israeli Defense Systems Destroy Ballistic Missile Fired From Yemen Mid-Flight

Published

on

According to Nivo News, the Israeli military announced on Thursday morning that its air force intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Yemen. Military officials reported that the missile was detected shortly after 4 a.m. and successfully neutralized before triggering air-raid sirens, as it posed no immediate threat to populated areas.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Iran-aligned Houthi rebels later claimed responsibility, describing the weapon as a “Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile” allegedly aimed at Ben Gurion Airport, Israel’s main international gateway. While Israeli authorities confirmed the interception, they did not verify the target identified by the Houthis.

This interception comes amid a continued pattern of cross-border hostilities. Since Hamas’ October 2023 assault on Israel, Houthi forces have repeatedly launched drones and missiles toward Israeli territory, declaring their actions as solidarity with Palestinians. These attacks briefly halted during a Gaza ceasefire but resumed after the truce collapsed in March.

Past incidents have exposed vulnerabilities in Israel’s air defense systems. On May 4, 2025, a Houthi missile struck the perimeter of Ben Gurion Airport after evading interceptors, injuring eight people and forcing flight suspensions for several days. In December 2024, another missile—also identified as a Palestine 2—hit a playground in Tel Aviv, injuring at least 16 civilians.

In response, Israel has broadened its countermeasure capabilities, including a June 2025 naval strike on Hodeidah, a Yemeni port city under Houthi control, believed to be a weapons smuggling hub. Defense analysts say the latest missile launch highlights the growing ability of Yemen-based groups to target deep inside Israeli territory, escalating both military and geopolitical challenges.

Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced his support for President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to establish state police. However, in an interview on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Dickson cautioned against rushing the implementation of this policy.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prioritizing Current Crises: Dickson suggested that the government should focus its immediate efforts on combating terrorism and insecurity, arguing that the establishment of a state police force should be deferred to the next administration.

  • Decentralization Concerns: While backing the move to decentralize policing, Dickson advocated for broader structural changes, specifically recommending the decentralization of mineral rights to facilitate resource control.

  • Proposed Phased Approach: Rather than an immediate shift to state police, he argued that policing should first be decentralized to the zonal level.

  • Proposed Constitutional Oversight: He outlined a preference for amending the constitution to empower governors to appoint police commissioners, subject to confirmation by the Police Service Commission and oversight by the state Houses of Assembly.

Additionally, the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, expressed skepticism regarding the timing of the initiative. Obi specifically questioned the appropriateness of amending the constitution to grant such significant powers to governors shortly before an upcoming election.
