‘We’re Being Shut Out!’ — Obidient Movement Accuses ADC of Betrayal, Begs Obi to Intervene

A leaked memo from the Obidient Movement addressed to former presidential candidate Peter Obi has revealed growing internal tensions within the coalition anchored by the African Democratic Congress (ADC)....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to the document obtained by Punch, the movement alleged that its members are being sidelined from critical decision-making processes within the alliance.

The ADC was unveiled on July 2, 2025, as a unified opposition platform aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Present at the launch were interim National Chairman David Mark; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Obi; former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai; and ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, among others.

Despite his visible role at the unveiling, Obi has yet to formally join the party. However, the coalition’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed that both Obi and El-Rufai were granted waivers to temporarily remain in their original parties.

In the memo dated July 29, 2025, and signed by National Coordinator Tanko Yunusa, the Obidient Movement accused the coalition of marginalising its members, despite their significant role in galvanising popular support and momentum for the new political bloc.

“We write on behalf of the Obidient Movement to express our deep concerns over recent developments within the coalition,” the memo stated. “Our members are being deliberately excluded from all levels of engagement.”

While reaffirming their commitment to the coalition’s broader vision, the group highlighted a series of grievances, notably their exclusion from high-level strategy meetings. Yunusa lamented that none of Obi’s loyalists were considered worthy of a seat at the table during pivotal deliberations.

“Several of our representatives are reportedly being locked out of key meetings where crucial decisions are made,” the memo continued. “This fosters a sense of marginalisation and erodes the trust necessary for a sustainable partnership.”

The movement also decried what it described as “non-existent representation,” arguing that the current coalition structure does not reflect the Obidient Movement’s strength or contributions.

Calling for urgent intervention, the group urged Obi to address the matter with the coalition leadership.

“We believe that, at a minimum, each geopolitical zone should have at least one representative from the Obidient Movement on both the working and non-working committees,” the memo proposed. “Such measures are vital to restoring trust and repositioning the coalition for victory.”

“We look to you to help resolve this in the spirit of building the new Nigeria we all envision,” the statement concluded.
