Obi’s Worth Isn’t Defined by Aso Rock!” – Chimamanda’s Bold Take Shakes Political Circles

Award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has opened up about her unwavering support for Labour Party’s Peter Obi, attributing it to his selfless leadership and genuine passion for Nigeria’s progress.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Amazing Africans on Monday, Adichie emphasized that her admiration for Obi goes beyond political ambition, describing him as a rare figure in Nigeria’s political space—one who is not driven by ego or desperation for power.

“Peter Obi doesn’t need to be president. He wants to be, because he cares deeply about Nigeria—but he doesn’t need to be. And that’s a very important distinction,” she said.

She contrasted Obi with other politicians, many of whom, she argued, are consumed by personal ambition. “There are people desperate to be president—not out of genuine intent to serve, but because of their egos,” she added.

‘He’s Accountable to the People’

Adichie praised Obi’s humility and integrity, noting that he stands apart because of his sense of accountability and modesty.

“Peter Obi is not someone who expects to be praised for simply doing his job. He sees leadership as service, not entitlement,” she said.

“There’s a genuine sense in him that he is accountable to the people. He doesn’t see himself as someone who should lord over others.”

Reflecting on their personal relationship, Adichie described the former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate as “one of the simplest men I have ever known.”

“The Peter Obi I met 15 years ago hasn’t changed in terms of values. He’s consistent, authentic, and intellectually curious—qualities I deeply admire in a leader,” she said.

While Adichie refrained from speculating about the future of Obi’s political ambitions, she admitted that she wasn’t ready to imagine a scenario where he doesn’t run again. “I don’t want to talk about how I’d feel if he’s not the candidate. I’d rather not think about that yet. No one knows what tomorrow holds,” she remarked.

A Vocal Supporter Since 2023

Chimamanda was one of Peter Obi’s most prominent supporters during the 2023 presidential race. Her public endorsement included heartfelt social media posts, a personal birthday tribute where she called him “my big bro,” and a widely shared campaign video.

After the election—which saw Obi place third behind President Bola Tinubu of the APC—Adichie made headlines with her open letter to U.S. President Joe Biden. In the letter, she criticized the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process and urged the U.S. not to legitimize what she called a flawed election.

Her physical presence at the Presidential Election Tribunal in Abuja further underscored her dedication to the cause.

As Peter Obi has since declared his intention to run again in 2027, supporters like Adichie remain vocal in their belief that he embodies the kind of transformative leadership Nigeria desperately needs.
