A new agri-tech initiative, HarvestCalc, has officially launched its pilot phase in Akwa Ibom State, with the goal of transforming Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The platform is designed to link farmers with both local and international offtakers, reduce post-harvest losses, and drive industrial growth by ensuring steady access to raw materials.

Speaking at the launch on Friday, Ebele Ajaba, Country Director of HarvestCalc, described it as “a game-changing digital tool that bridges farmers with markets, combats post-harvest waste, and enhances access to inputs and buyers.”

Ajaba noted that the platform was inspired by years of firsthand work with smallholder farmers who “labour intensely, yet lose up to 40% of their harvest due to systemic inefficiencies.”

The Akwa Ibom pilot enrolled 500 farmers and built a local implementation team, signaling the start of a nationwide rollout.

“We deliberately chose Akwa Ibom. The state has consistently hit its agricultural development goals. By engaging farmers, government, financial institutions, and tech partners, we demonstrated our commitment to creating a united ecosystem for agricultural growth,” Ajaba said.

She also emphasized the synergy with recent state and federal programmes like “Produce for Lagos”, highlighting that “this is the right moment to leverage innovation.”

Ajaba said HarvestCalc stands out for its comprehensive vision:

“We’re not just linking producers to buyers—we’re building Africa’s digital infrastructure for agriculture and manufacturing.”

While the platform primarily targets smallholder farmers, who make up over 70% of Nigeria’s agri-sector, it also supports commercial farms, manufacturers, and public agencies.

Chigozie Ubanagu, founder of HarvestCalc, called the pilot “more than a tech launch—it’s the start of a movement to reimagine Nigerian agriculture.”

He said Akwa Ibom was chosen for its proven agricultural capacity and its success in meeting development milestones.

“The state achieved 100% of our pilot goals. This isn’t just another platform launch—it’s a historic moment proving that with the right tools, partners, and people, Africa is ready to compete globally with quality and consistency,” Ubanagu added.
