Critics Blast Tinubu for Turning Blind Eye to Incompetent Governors, Offering Rewards Instead
A former National Vice Chairman (Northwest) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has accused several state governors of failing to utilize their monthly federal allocations for genuine development purposes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Lukman, who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), acknowledged that allocations to states have increased under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. However, he alleged that many governors divert these funds for personal gain rather than investing in public infrastructure and services.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, Lukman criticised President Tinubu for allegedly “rewarding” governors who mismanage public resources.
“Yes, the president may have said the right things, but what concrete steps is he taking to ensure that governors are delivering on their responsibilities?” Lukman asked. “What I observe is that these governors are being rewarded even when they’re doing the wrong things.”
He further lamented that the absence of accountability has made many governors increasingly dismissive of the electorate.
“When the party structure is completely subordinate to the governors, they become emboldened in their arrogance and operate with impunity—treating public funds as if they were personal assets,” Lukman said.
He added that instead of holding governors accountable and ensuring they deliver democratic dividends, Tinubu’s administration seems more focused on encouraging defections from opposition parties to the APC.
“For example, when a party’s recruitment strategy is based solely on attracting new members without setting conditions for accountability, it undermines governance,” he noted. “Most of them simply aim to retain power—not to serve the people.”
