Meanwhile, FIFA has officially confirmed that the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place on December 5 in Las Vegas, as reported by ESPN.

The global football body selected the iconic American city as the venue for the draw, bypassing proposals from co-hosts Canada and Mexico. The 2026 edition will be the first to feature 48 teams, expanding from the traditional 32-team format.

Pedro Cedillo, an executive at Pachuca Football Club, confirmed the draw date, stating, “December 5, if I’m not mistaken, is precisely the day the draw takes place—or early December. I understand it will be in Las Vegas, and that’s where we need to be to present details about Pachuca, Hidalgo, and our proposed venues.”

The Las Vegas Convention Center, which hosted the draw during the USA’s last hosting stint in 1994, is expected to serve as the venue again.

For the North-Central region, the agency predicted a warm and calm start, followed by possible thunderstorms and rainfall in some states, while others may experience strong winds. Affected areas may include Niger, Kwara, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory.

In the South, more intense storm activity is expected as the day progresses, with states such as Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Enugu, Anambra, Rivers, and Delta likely to see rain, lightning, and possible disruption to outdoor activities.

NiMet advised residents to take precautions, including securing loose items that could be affected by strong winds and avoiding unnecessary travel during heavy rain due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.

SSANU Threatens Indefinite Strike Over FG’s 30% Salary Increment Plan.

Published

on

The Federal Government has approved a 30 per cent salary increase for non-academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, in a move aimed at addressing long-standing welfare concerns in the education sector.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision is intended to improve the conditions of service for administrative and technical workers in higher institutions. It comes after years of agitation by unions over pay disparities, unpaid entitlements, and following a recent 40 per cent salary adjustment granted to academic staff.

The approval was contained in a letter dated March 30, 2026, signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa. It stated that the increase would be implemented through a consolidated allowance structure for non-teaching staff.

Relevant education agencies were directed to begin implementation based on guidelines attached to the memo.

However, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has rejected the development, insisting that negotiations with the government are still ongoing and no final agreement has been reached.

Following a National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, the union dismissed reports suggesting a concluded deal, saying discussions were still in progress.

SSANU also expressed concern over a circulating letter on the salary adjustment, arguing that it does not reflect the outcome of negotiations so far.

The union maintained it would not accept any arrangement that does not follow due process and agreed terms, stressing the need for fairness in the negotiation process.

It also reiterated its earlier warning, giving the Federal Government until April 30, 2026, to conclude talks or risk an indefinite strike in collaboration with NASU.

Members were advised to remain alert and await further directives from the union leadership.

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has stirred reactions after criticising Igbos who attack their fellow kinsmen for supporting President Bola Tinubu ahead of the next election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a post shared on X on Saturday, he condemned those calling out other Igbos over their political support for the president’s second-term bid.

He said it was unfair for people from the South-East to focus criticism only on their own while ignoring supporters of the same political movement in other regions.

Edochie also questioned why similar energy is not directed at supporters from other parts of the country who back Tinubu.

He further suggested that selective criticism reflects bias and misplaced anger among those targeting fellow Igbos.

He wrote: “Any Igbo man that is dragging his fellow Igbo man for supporting President TINUBU, that person is a monkey and a coward.

“Show me a video of you dragging Yorubas who are supporting TINUBU. Show me a video of you dragging Northerners who are supporting Tinubu. Show me a video of you dragging all the past leaders who couldn’t fix Nigeria… None.”
