Speaking during the flag-off in Lafia, Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed that the initiative followed the state’s payment of a N150 million counterpart fund, enabling its full participation in the programme.

According to him, the AGILE project will help address key challenges around access, retention, and the quality of education for adolescent girls, especially at the secondary school level.

“This programme is designed to tackle the low completion rates among adolescent girls by supporting schools, families, and communities, while equipping girls with life skills for personal development,” Sule said.

The governor praised the Federal Ministry of Education for including Nasarawa in the rollout of the School Improvement Grant under the AGILE framework, adding that recruitment of new teachers for the upcoming schools was already underway.

He urged School-Based Management Committees and other stakeholders to manage funds responsibly and in strict accordance with approved work plans, stressing the need for transparency and accountability.

Funds from the initiative will be disbursed directly to eligible public secondary schools to upgrade infrastructure, provide learning materials, improve Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities, and create inclusive environments for female students.

AGILE State Project Coordinator, Aishatu Isoga, explained that the programme targets girls aged 10 to 20 in 21 states, with a special focus on those from vulnerable backgrounds at risk of dropping out.

She said the intervention includes school construction and rehabilitation, social behavioural change campaigns, and community mobilisation for girls’ education and empowerment.

“Today’s flag-off of the School Improvement Grant marks a major milestone. A total of 515 secondary schools in Nasarawa will benefit—331 under small grants, 159 under medium grants, and 25 under large grants,” Isoga said. “The first phase will focus on 490 schools receiving small and medium grants. These funds will empower communities to lead their own school improvement projects.”

Commissioner for Education, John Mamman, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to all partners involved and reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to ensure seamless implementation of the project across all 13 LGAs.

Olaposi also claimed that only a minority of Kwankwasiya supporters followed Kwankwaso, insisting that many of them have since joined the APC.

He further accused Atiku of misinformation, stressing that NNPP remains an independent political party focused on contesting elections on its own platform.

Momodu had argued that a pairing of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi could perform strongly in the election, citing their past collaboration in 2019 and Obi’s 2023 electoral performance.

Responding, Tanko questioned the logic of choosing a candidate who might win a primary but lose the general election, insisting that the Obi–Kwankwaso combination would be more formidable.

He further warned that if the ADC fails to zone its presidential ticket to the South, the party risks losing the 2027 election.

Tanko maintained that with Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso on the same ticket, victory would be decisive and swift.
