Sabotaged From Inside” – Rhodes-Vivour Exposes Hidden Forces That Crippled His Campaign

The Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has disclosed that voter suppression and intimidation were the biggest challenges that thwarted his chances of unseating the incumbent, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a post shared on (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Rhodes-Vivour lamented that electoral violence has become deeply entrenched in Lagos, making free and fair elections increasingly difficult.

“When you normalize violence against a segment of society, it eventually spreads,” he wrote. “Look at what happened in the State Assembly elections—over 90% of voters in some areas made their choice, stood firm despite threats and force, and participated fully in the democratic process. But even then, the same instruments of violence and suppression were used to truncate the will of the people.”

He continued, “It’s a culture of violence, voter suppression, and intimidation. That was the biggest obstacle I faced during the 2023 elections.”

Meanwhile, Rhodes-Vivour has met with the newly appointed National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, as part of ongoing consultations around the emerging opposition coalition.

In a follow-up post on Tuesday, he shared, “Had a great meeting earlier today with Engr. Rauf Aregbesola (@raufaregbesola). The mission is clear, and the commitment unwavering. More importantly, we shook hands. A new Nigeria—and a Lagos that works for everyone—is possible.”

The ADC has recently been adopted as the platform of a new mega opposition coalition, which is attracting heavyweight political figures from across party lines. Former Senate President David Mark was announced as the coalition’s National Chairman, with former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola named National Secretary.

Key attendees at the ADC adoption meeting included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed, former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, and former ministers Rotimi Amaechi and Abubakar Malami.

Also present were prominent opposition figures such as former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Gabriel Suswam, Jibrilla Bindo, Emeka Ihedioha, Aminu Tambuwal, Liyel Imoke, and Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Other notable participants included PDP elder Aminu Wali, former Minister Bolaji Abdullahi, Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe, Victor Umeh, and Ireti Kingibe, former SGF Babachir Lawal, former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie, former PDP chairman Uche Secondus, and factional Labour Party chairperson Esther Usman.

Factional Crisis Rocks ADC In Akwa Ibom As Party Splits Deepen.

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
