In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the governor stressed that while justice cannot restore the dead, it can offer solace to the grieving family.

“Justice may not bring back the deceased, but it will reassure the family that their son did not die in vain,” the statement read.

Fanwo reaffirmed that the safety and security of Kogi residents remain a top priority for the Ododo administration. He assured the public that no effort would be spared in ensuring that justice is served, disclosing that investigations are still ongoing into both the murder and the mysterious death of the prime suspect.

“The government will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice,” the statement emphasized. “The circumstances surrounding the murder and the suspect’s subsequent death are under thorough investigation. The perpetrators will not go unpunished.”

Fanwo also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with credible information that could aid the investigation.

“We urge residents to be security-conscious and to cooperate with security operatives by providing useful intelligence,” he added.

Earlier reports revealed that the prime suspect in Aiyepeku’s murder, identified as Ayo Pelumi, was found dead in a hotel room on Thursday afternoon under suspicious circumstances.

Pelumi was accused of killing his friend, Ayobami Aiyepeku, on Tuesday night around 8:30 p.m. He allegedly struck the victim with an iron object, leaving him unconscious, before dismembering the body and attempting to dispose of the remains using a Hilux van.

After initially fleeing the scene, Pelumi reportedly returned hours later only to be intercepted by security personnel. Though officers shot at his vehicle’s tyres, he managed to escape.

According to Daily Trust, he was eventually traced to a hotel where he had checked in on Wednesday. His lifeless body was discovered inside the room the following afternoon, alongside a bottle of Coca-Cola and a container suspected to contain poison.

The hotel staff notified the police, who later confirmed Pelumi’s identity as the prime suspect in Aiyepeku’s murder.

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
