Commuter Game-Changer: Sokoto Upgrades Transit System with Digital Tickets, 30 New Buses
The Sokoto State Government has rolled out 30 new mass transit buses and launched a digital e-ticketing platform as part of its efforts to modernise public transportation and improve transparency.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The newly unveiled vehicles, presented on Sunday, bring the total number of buses acquired by the Ahmed Aliyu administration to 70 since assuming office.
During the official handover ceremony in Sokoto, Deputy Governor Idris Muhammed Gobir presented the keys to the Commissioner for Transportation, Bala Kokani.
Gobir explained that although the buses were part of an earlier procurement, their deployment was delayed until the completion of the state’s new e-ticketing system.
“Now that the digital ticketing platform is fully functional, commuters can book and pay for their trips online, eliminating delays and long queues at bus terminals,” he said.
He added that the initiative is designed to ease transport hardship for residents, especially in light of the economic strain following the removal of fuel subsidies. He further noted that the e-ticketing system will promote operational transparency and ensure citizens get value for money.
Gobir called on the Ministry of Transportation to maintain strict oversight of the vehicles, including regular servicing and cleanliness.
“These buses were bought with public funds. They must be treated as collective property and preserved accordingly,” he stressed.
Receiving the buses, Commissioner Bala Kokani expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritising the transportation sector. He described the investment as a major milestone in the administration’s commitment to improving public mobility.
“We will manage these buses with utmost care, as though they were our personal vehicles,” Kokani pledged.
The deployment of the new buses and the introduction of the e-ticketing platform are expected to ease traffic congestion, improve commuter convenience, and create a more efficient and accountable transportation system in Sokoto.
