2026 Shockwave: Ekiti Political Heavyweights Unite Behind ADC for Governorship Battle

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), now serving as the flagship platform for Nigeria’s emerging coalition of opposition forces, was officially launched in Ekiti State over the weekend, drawing heavyweight defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The party declared its readiness to usher in a people-centric government in Ekiti come 2026.

Among the prominent political figures who formally joined the ADC during Saturday’s event were former Ekiti State Deputy Governor and ex-PDP governorship candidate, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka; former Commissioner for Information, Akin Omole; ex-Commissioner Segun Akinwumi; and former Secretary to the State Government, Dare Bejide.

Speaking after receiving his ADC membership card, Prof. Olusola-Eleka stated, “Today, we unveil the ADC as the united front of a coalition of progressive minds drawn from various political backgrounds to rescue Nigeria from misrule, impunity, and lack of accountability.”

He described the party as more than a political vehicle — calling it a rallying point for Nigerians determined to reject corruption, greed, and what he termed a creeping one-party state.

“This is a movement of purpose. We are saying no to intimidation, no to political monopoly. The energy and resolve you see here today show the people’s readiness for real change,” he said.

ADC State Chairman Ilesanmi Omolayo, alongside Deputy Chairman Dare Adekolu, who distributed membership cards to new entrants, said the party aims to replace deceit-driven politics with integrity, transparency, and people-first governance.

“As we prepare for the 2026 governorship election and look ahead to 2027, we believe that unity, discipline, and dedication will empower us to build a government that genuinely prioritises development and the welfare of the people,” Omolayo stated.

David Adesua, the ADC State Leader, likened the unveiling to “sounding a clarion call to the people of Ekiti.” He said the state had endured years of bad governance but that ADC now offered a credible alternative. “The ADC symbol — arise and shine — reflects our mission to restore hope to our people,” he said.

Adesua promised that if elected in 2026, the ADC would reverse the economic hardship inflicted by the APC-led government at both the state and national levels. “We’re committed to a style of governance that creates opportunities, fosters prosperity, and places the needs of the people above political greed.”

Former Information Commissioner Akin Omole declared that Nigerians across the country are gravitating towards ADC as a solution-driven platform. “This is no longer about empty rhetoric — we are seeking tangible solutions to Nigeria’s problems, especially those affecting the masses.”

Segun Akinwumi, another high-profile defector, described his departure from the PDP as a necessary step in joining the rescue mission. He labelled the PDP “an unwilling horse” and hailed the ADC as the vessel to liberate Nigerians from deepening poverty and suffering.

He expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2026 governorship race, boldly declaring: “Tell anyone who cares to listen: no governor in Ekiti State has ever served two uninterrupted terms. Not Adeniyi Adebayo, not Fayose, not Segun Oni, not even Fayemi. Biodun Oyebanji will be no different.”

Akinwumi added, “Governor Oyebanji has clearly missed the mark. We are headed for Oke Ayoba, and this movement is no joke.”
