Chairman Makes Passionate Appeal: Stick with APC or Risk Regression!

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Hon. Olayide Abas, has urged voters in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency to remain loyal to the party and reaffirm their commitment to progressive governance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Abas made the appeal on Monday at the party’s Oke-Ado Secretariat in Ibadan, where he received Mr. Adewale Olatunji, popularly known as Murphy, the APC candidate for the upcoming August 16 bye-election. Olatunji, a native of Ibadan, was at the secretariat to formally present his Certificate of Return from the party’s national headquarters, confirming him as the APC flagbearer. He was accompanied by local government executives and a large group of supporters.

Abas praised the political maturity of voters in Ibadan North, noting their long-standing preference for quality representation. “Since the dawn of the Fourth Republic in 1999, this constituency has experienced representation from both the APC and the PDP. But the records clearly favour those elected under progressive banners—AD, ACN, and APC—who consistently delivered impactful representation in the Green Chamber,” he said.

He paid tribute to the late Prince Olaide Akinremi, also known as Jagaban, whose passing in 2024 created the vacancy. “Jagaban set a high standard for legislative excellence and public service. His legacy is a benchmark we must strive to uphold,” Abas stated. “Fortunately, in Adewale Olatunji, we have a worthy successor—committed, passionate, and ready to exceed expectations.”

Abas also warned against opposition attempts to reclaim the seat. “Some desperate political actors are trying to impose a stooge as Akinremi’s replacement. Ibadan North is too strategic to fall into the hands of someone who lacks the clout to be heard in the House of Representatives simply because they belong to the opposition,” he declared.

In his remarks, Olatunji pledged to unify the party and engage all stakeholders, including fellow aspirants, leaders, and grassroots supporters, in his journey towards electoral victory.

“I will be a servant-leader to party members and constituents alike, and a vocal, active representative in the National Assembly if elected,” he promised.

Recalling his controversial experience during the 2003 general election, Olatunji alleged that he had previously won the mandate to represent the constituency, but it was unjustly taken from him through electoral malpractice by the PDP. “That experience did not break my resolve. Today, we have a renewed opportunity to serve—and this time, we must claim our rightful mandate together, for the good of all,” he said.
