Osun Power Games: The Untold Story of Adeleke’s Thwarted APC Crossover

Published

on

Fresh details have surfaced on why Governor Ademola Adeleke’s rumored defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) eventually fell through.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Sunday Sun, loyalists of former Osun State governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, were instrumental in scuttling Adeleke’s alleged move to the ruling party.

Sources revealed that a high‑level caucus meeting took place on Friday night at Oyetola’s residence in Ogo‑Oluwa, Osogbo, where the issue was thoroughly deliberated.

At the meeting, APC leaders reportedly dissected the chain of events that derailed Adeleke’s rumored switch and also mapped out strategies for the 2026 governorship race and the broader 2027 political calculations.

A prominent APC national figure present at the meeting was quoted as saying he personally worked behind the scenes to ensure Adeleke’s defection plan collapsed. He also reportedly assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Adeleke’s backing would not be necessary for securing Osun votes in the 2027 presidential election, stressing that “federal might” would be deployed to guarantee an APC victory in the 2026 gubernatorial poll.

The gathering, Sunday Sun reported, also touched on the protracted dispute over local government allocations in Osun. According to insiders, an APC leader revealed that the party had actively ensured the court ruling on council leadership would not favor the PDP‑led state government. He further disclosed that the decision to withhold allocations to the councils would stand, despite fierce criticism from lawyers, civil society groups, and the Adeleke administration.

The meeting, sources added, concluded with a firm resolve to reclaim the Osun governorship by November 2026. Oyetola is said to have urged all APC aspirants to close ranks and work in unison to secure victory.

Participants also recalled the 2022 governorship election, alleging that the APC’s defeat was partly due to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to deploy federal forces. They vowed that such a situation would not be repeated under the current administration.

Meanwhile, legal practitioners and activists have continued to condemn the Federal Government’s decision to withhold Osun’s local government funds, despite an Appeal Court ruling purportedly in favor of the Adeleke government—an action the state and the PDP describe as unconstitutional and politically driven

Court Orders Probe Of Leaked Video In Alleged Coup Plot Trial

Published

on

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja initiated an investigation into the unauthorized release of a video linked to the ongoing trial of six individuals accused of conspiring to topple President Bola Tinubu’s government.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Investigation into the Leaked Video

  • Court Directive: Following a complaint from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), regarding a video statement that surfaced on the social media platform of influencer “VeryDarkMan” despite a court-imposed restriction, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to conduct an inquiry.

  • National Security Concerns: The DPP characterized the leak as a national security risk that prejudices the ongoing judicial proceedings, noting the video had already surpassed 6,000 views.

  • Defense Stance: While defense counsel denied involvement in the leak, they held varying views on a probe; some welcomed an investigation, while others, like Sanusi Musa (SAN), cautioned against acting without formal evidence.

  • Judicial Ruling: Invoking Section 232(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, Justice Abdulmalik mandated the DSS to identify and bring any responsible parties before the court, noting that such prosecution would be handled separately from the main coup trial.

Trial Testimony and Bail Proceedings

  • Witness Testimony: A prosecution witness, an Army officer codenamed “DDD,” testified that the investigation was conducted by a multi-agency team—including the Army, DSS, DIA, and EFCC—and explicitly denied that the defendants were chained, coerced, or tortured during interrogation.

  • Defense Challenges: During cross-examination, defense lawyers challenged the interrogation process, specifically noting the absence of family members or legal representation during the suspects’ questioning; however, the witness stated no such requests were made by the defendants.

  • Bail Applications: The court heard bail arguments from the defense, which the DPP opposed; Justice Abdulmalik has reserved her ruling on these applications and adjourned the trial-within-trial for the first three defendants until June 25 and June 30.
