Economic Boom Ahead! Nigeria Projected to Rank 3rd in Africa by 2025 – NOA Declares

Published

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has projected that Nigeria is on track to surpass Algeria and emerge as Africa’s third‑largest economy by Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2025, buoyed by a recent surge that expanded the country’s GDP by 38 percent.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In its weekly bulletin, The Explainer, NOA referenced new data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which put Nigeria’s GDP at ₦372.8 trillion for 2024 following a rebasing exercise that shifted the base year to 2019.

Chaired by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, NOA’s editorial board noted that the revised figures show Nigeria narrowing the gap with Algeria. The latest NBS data indicates that, despite moving from an earlier GDP estimate of $187.8 billion to $243.7 billion, Nigeria still ranked as Africa’s fourth‑largest economy in 2024, just behind Algeria, which posted a nominal GDP of $247.63 billion.

According to NOA, projections suggest that by the first quarter of 2025, Nigeria’s rebased economy will likely edge past Algeria.

“The 52nd edition of this publication highlights the rebasing of Nigeria’s GDP by the NBS. The rebased GDP now stands at ₦372.8 trillion ($243.7 billion) using 2019 as the new base year and factoring in previously unrecorded sectors such as e‑commerce, mining, and informal activities.

“This represents a 38 percent increase from previous estimates, placing Nigeria as Africa’s fourth‑largest economy and closing in on Algeria. Services lead with 53.09 percent, followed by agriculture (25.83 percent) and industry (21.08 percent).

“Although naira depreciation affected dollar‑denominated GDP, the economy still recorded an 81.8 percent growth from 2019 to 2024. The rebasing underscores Nigeria’s economic diversification and the untapped potential in the informal sector,” the agency stated.

“Don’t come to APC. Stay in ADC and scatter them. We like what you’re doing. Don’t mind former governor Yahaya Bello, who said you should join APC. No, no, no, stay in ADC and win your election. Also, bring Bala Gombe, and we’ll support him. Good luck in court,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, fresh tension has emerged within the African Democratic Congress as factional leader Nafiu Bala accused former national chairman Ralph Nwosu of misrepresenting the purpose of a recent party event.

Bala, speaking in an interview on AIT on Monday, said he was invited to what he believed was a routine meeting to welcome new members but later discovered it was used to announce a new leadership structure led by David Mark.

He explained that he only realised the full agenda after proceedings had begun, adding that the event also featured Nwosu stepping down while unveiling new party executives.

According to him, the development has deepened existing internal disputes within the party, especially with the appointment of David Mark and others into key leadership positions during the gathering.
