End the Cycle of Disputes! Nigerians Advised to Embrace Mediation for Peaceful Co‑existence”
The Mediation Training Institute (MTI) has urged Nigerians to adopt mediation as a daily habit to peacefully resolve conflicts and strengthen relationships across all sectors of society.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement commemorating the International Day of Mediation on Thursday, MTI President Segun Ogunyannwo emphasized that mediation should be regarded as a fundamental life skill rather than a once-in-a-while solution.
“Mediation isn’t a garment to be worn only when convenient and discarded when it no longer serves personal interest,” he said. “Our thoughts, words, and actions should embody the noble values of reconciliation and peacemaking.”
He explained that the institute deliberately chose July 24 to signify the need for mediation to be practiced “24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Ogunyannwo encouraged Nigerians to apply mediation in resolving disputes within families, workplaces, communities, and business environments, stressing its importance in maintaining peace in a society often prone to conflict.
He further urged individuals to take part in the observance by resolving actual disputes on the day and sharing their mediation experiences with the institute via email for recognition of their contributions to peacebuilding.
“Mediation skills are life skills,” Ogunyannwo said, adding that these competencies are essential for managing disagreements, sustaining relationships, and promoting peaceful coexistence.
He also reminded mediators of the importance of confidentiality and discretion in handling cases, noting that the International Day of Mediation remains a powerful platform for fostering dialogue, tolerance, and reconciliation throughout Nigeria.
