Speaking with journalists on the wave of recent defections from the PDP—Atiku’s move included—Pearse insisted that these departures pose no real threat to the party’s strength or future. Instead, he argued that the former PDP presidential candidate is steadily eroding his own political credibility.

“Atiku will certainly win the ADC primary and clinch the presidential ticket,” Pearse said, “but he cannot win the presidential election on that platform. His sense of political judgment has always been flawed, and what he is doing now is further damaging his political brand.”

Pearse also expressed confidence that many of those who defected to the ADC would eventually return to the PDP once they realized their error.

NEC Meeting Shows PDP’s Strength

Addressing developments within the PDP, Pearse hailed the recently concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja as proof of the party’s unity and resilience.

Pearse—who previously served on Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee and now leads the Reset Lagos PDP group—said the NEC’s outcome marked a turning point:

“Nothing is wrong with the PDP. We don’t suffer the problems many other political parties face. Ours is built on a solid foundation,” he said.
“Just like in a marriage, disagreements happen, but they can be resolved. If you leave for another ‘marriage,’ you might find worse issues waiting. Our NEC meeting shows PDP is alive, democratic, and moving forward. Those leaving are simply confused.”

Zoning Presidency to the South a “Game Changer”

Pearse also praised the PDP’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, calling it a “masterstroke” and the best strategy to unseat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP’s 101st NEC meeting, held in Abuja, set November 15 and 16 for the party’s next national elective convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, and also outlined internal reforms aimed at strengthening the party ahead of 2027.

Pearse’s remarks underscore the PDP’s renewed confidence as it positions itself as the leading opposition force amid defections, internal recalibration, and preparations for the next presidential race.
