Cross‑Party Engagement: Tinubu Welcomes Former PDP Gov Segun Oni to Aso Rock”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday hosted former Ekiti State Governor Segun Oni at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oni was accompanied by Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, in what many analysts interpret as part of the Presidency’s broader efforts to court key political heavyweights across party lines.

Although the Presidency did not release an official statement on the discussions, Punch reported that the meeting, held behind closed doors, focused on national issues and ongoing internal repositioning within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The visit is particularly noteworthy given Oni’s previous affiliations with the PDP and the Social Democratic Party (SDP)—a development observers say could signal quiet political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Earlier that day, President Tinubu also met privately with governors elected on the APC platform under the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Aso Rock Villa.

The session, which began at 7:00 p.m., was led by PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma. Among the early arrivals were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu and Ekiti Governor Oyebanji, underscoring the significance of the gathering.

These high-level engagements came just hours before the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 24, at the State House Conference Centre.

Top on the NEC agenda is the selection of a substantive National Chairman to replace Abdullahi Ganduje, who recently resigned over health concerns. Tinubu is expected to use the session to brief party leaders on his preferred choice for the chairmanship and broader internal restructuring.

Speculation is mounting that the chairmanship could be zoned back to the North-Central, following complaints of marginalisation from stakeholders in that region.

Thursday’s meeting is also expected to review the party’s financial position, ongoing reforms, and early preparations for the 2027 polls.
