CHAN 2024: Super Eagles B Coach Releases Final 23, Picks Nduka as On-Field General
Remo Stars captain, Junior Nduka, has earned a place in the final 23-man Super Eagles B squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), slated for August 2–20 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Head coach Eric Chelle unveiled the squad on Tuesday after the team wrapped up their last pre‑tournament friendly against Ikorodu City at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
Nduka, who also led the team during last year’s CHAN qualifiers, is joined by eight teammates from Remo Stars—Sodiq Ismail, Alex Oyowah, Qudus Akanni, Sikiru Alimi, Michael Tochukwu, Haruna Hadi, Jabbar Malik, and Olamilekan Adedayo—making Remo Stars the most represented club in the squad.
In goal, the trio selected are Mustapha Lawal (Shooting Stars), Henry Ani Ozoemena (Enyimba), and Badmus Nurudeen (Kwara United). The defense line features Stephen Manyo and Taiwo Abdulrafiu (both of Rivers United) alongside Leonard Ngenge (Ikorodu City).
Daniel Bameyi of Bayelsa United—who captained Nigeria’s U‑20s at the 2023 FIFA U‑20 World Cup—also made the cut and is expected to be pivotal in the tournament.
Up front, Anthony Ijoma and Sikiru Alimi were selected to spearhead the attack. Alimi previously represented the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup in London.
Among those who did not make the squad are Joseph Atule (Enyimba), Ayomide Cole (Ikorodu City), Kabiru Muhammed (Kwara United), Aminu Umar and Zayyad Musa (both of Kano Pillars), and Aniekeme Okon (Rivers United).
Some players left camp to pursue overseas opportunities—Kayode Bankole and Sunday Megwo—while others, including Adamu Abubakar, Papa Daniel, Adejoh Ojonugwa, Saviour Isaac, Waliu Ojetoye, and injured Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, did not join camp.
The squad will depart for Tanzania on Thursday evening to continue fine‑tuning their preparations and engage in additional friendlies.
Nigeria’s group stage fixtures will see them face Senegal and Sudan at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar, before wrapping up against Congo at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
