Historic Step! Namadi Enacts Hisbah Board Bill, Redefining Law Enforcement in Jigawa

The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Dutse, during the weekly State Executive Council meeting, marking the completion of more than eight months of legislative and administrative processes.
Speaking after appending his signature, Governor Namadi described the occasion as a “remarkable achievement” and a testament to his administration’s commitment to strengthening moral and social responsibility in Jigawa.
“Today, we have signed into law the Hisbah Bill, which formally establishes the Hisbah Board as an institution in Jigawa State.
This is a process that began seven to eight months ago, and today, by the grace of Allah, we have brought it to a conclusion,” the governor said.
Namadi expressed confidence that the board’s formal establishment would usher in a new era of stronger moral values, community harmony, and effective social oversight.
He commended the Hisbah Board Establishment Committee for their “commitment, hard work, and sacrifice,” while charging Hisbah personnel to carry out their duties with fairness, integrity, and reverence for God.
“It is essential for Hisbah officers to act with fairness and dedication so that their work truly benefits the wider community,” he stressed.
According to the governor, the statutory recognition of the board will not only reinforce its authority but also enhance its capacity to promote social justice, public decency, and peaceful coexistence.
“With the signing of this law, the Hisbah Board is now fully empowered to operate across Jigawa State in line with its mandate,” Namadi added.
“This reflects our administration’s broader vision for a morally upright and socially responsible society.”
The Jigawa State House of Assembly had earlier passed the bill during a plenary session, paving the way for the board’s legal recognition and expanded powers.
The move has since drawn widespread support from community and religious leaders, who see the Hisbah Board as a vital moral compass in tackling social vices and curbing moral decline in the state.
