He Knows He Can’t Win Again” – APC Mocks Adeleke Over Alleged Defection Moves

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Osogbo by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC dismissed Adeleke as a political liability whose entry would erode the party’s integrity rather than strengthen it.
Lawal’s reaction followed a communiqué released by the Osun Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Leadership Caucus—signed by Governor Adeleke and 27 other PDP chieftains—which lamented the resistance to Adeleke’s speculated defection bid.
According to Lawal, the governor’s alleged interest in crossing over to the APC is driven by fear of an impending defeat in the 2026 governorship election.
He said:
“The people of Osun know that it is the fear of an imminent 2026 election defeat that is pushing Governor Adeleke to desperately seek asylum in our party for his political survival. We are pleased with the firm resistance his overtures have met.”
Lawal further described the Osun PDP as “a leprous house” abandoned by credible politicians, alleging that the party has been reduced to a spoil of war under the Adeleke dynasty.
“Since 2023, when the PDP began to morally collapse and turned into a war loot for the Adeleke family, principled leaders with integrity have continued to leave the party in droves, crossing over to the APC and leaving behind only political dregs and a structureless carcass,” he said.
He dismissed the PDP caucus’ claim of being the most popular party in Osun as “empty self-consolation,” arguing that the party has no factual basis for such a boast.
While stressing that the APC remains open to all Nigerians, Lawal cautioned that not every entry serves the party’s interest:
“Yes, a political party is a free-exit, free-entry platform, but when someone’s entry is likely to stain the party’s image and create a public perception crisis, the party is well within its right to reject such entry—as we have done in Governor Adeleke’s case.”
Lawal accused Adeleke of seeking refuge in the APC to escape voter backlash after allegedly mismanaging close to ₦1 trillion within 30 months in office:
“Those who know the truth understand that Adeleke is simply running from the anger of Osun people after his poor stewardship, and he wants to use the APC as a shield ahead of 2026. We will not allow that.”
