PDP Hit by Twin Senatorial Exits—but Osun Leaders Declare ‘No Cause for Alarm’”

News of the two senators’ exit broke on Saturday.
In his resignation letter, which surfaced on social media, Fadahunsi—a two‑term senator—cited the party’s prolonged internal crises and legal disputes as part of his reasons for leaving.
When contacted by Sunday PUNCH, he confirmed the authenticity of the letter through a brief text message.
Addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 4, Obokun Local Government Area, and dated June 12, 2025, the letter read in part:
“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedevilled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections.
This decision was reached after consultations with my political associates, family, and friends. I hope you accept my resignation in good faith.”
Similarly, Fadeyi, in a resignation letter dated July 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 3 Chairman, Oke Ejigbo, Ila Local Government Area, explained that his decision followed consultations with his constituents.
“Irreconcilable differences and irreparable divisions have emerged, alongside court cases and counter‑cases over the last three years, creating factions in the party at the national level. After wide consultations, I have decided to resign my membership,” Fadeyi wrote.
Reacting to the development, the PDP’s state publicity secretary, Oladele Bamiji, said the party would have appreciated being properly briefed before the lawmakers’ exit.
“They are entitled to their choices as adults and politicians. Ideally, we would expect them to consult or formally brief the party ahead of such a move,” Bamiji said.
“That said, politics is about choices, and we have no issues with them or their decision.”
