The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, made this known on Friday in Ikeja while displaying the seized items. He revealed that between June 3 and July 18, 2025, the unit carried out 102 enforcement interventions, leading to the confiscation of a wide range of prohibited goods.
Giving a breakdown, Adeniyi listed the seizures to include:
-
304kg of cannabis sativa,
-
7,900 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS),
-
54 bags and 20 bales of used clothing,
-
41 sacks and bags of used footwear,
-
14 units of used vehicles,
-
148 pieces of used tyres,
-
42 used gas cylinders,
-
31 air-conditioning units, and
-
95 cartons of frozen poultry products.
He further disclosed the interception of a 40ft container loaded with used tyres, a 20ft container filled with medications, and two other 40ft containers and a truck carrying used fridges, foreign supermarket items, and used clothing.
The duty-paid value (DPV) of all the intercepted items, he said, stands at ₦1.78 billion.
Beyond enforcement, Adeniyi noted that the unit remains vigilant in ensuring compliance with import and export regulations, correcting undervaluations, and issuing demand notices. He confirmed that within the review period, the unit recovered ₦95.5 million in underpaid duties.
According to him, nine suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures. While some have been granted administrative bail, others are being processed for handover to relevant security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
“All our operations are carried out with professionalism, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to regulations,” he stressed, reaffirming the unit’s commitment to facilitating legitimate trade through intelligence-driven operations that balance security and economic growth.
Adeniyi also revealed that Operation Whirlwind Zone A, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted 1,134 jerrycans of 25/30 litres and 33 drums of PMS—amounting to 35,535 litres—at notorious smuggling points including Ajilete, Ijoun, Ilaro, Badagry, Owode Idiroko, Eree Ado-Odo, and Obada Imeko.
These products, carefully concealed and destined for illegal export to the Republic of Benin, were seized alongside six vehicles used for conveyance, with an estimated value of ₦58.3 million.
He concluded that these interceptions reflect the strategic efficiency and operational dexterity of the NCS, underlining its determination to clamp down on economic saboteurs whose activities undermine national energy security and government policies.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
