Serial Defector!” – Wike’s Loyalist Ridicules Atiku’s Repeated PDP Breakups
The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, has reacted sharply to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as “good riddance to bad rubbish.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to The PUNCH, Atiku formally quit the PDP in a letter dated July 16, 2025, addressed to the chairman of his Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Despite calling the decision heartbreaking as one of the party’s founding fathers, his exit has sparked heated reactions.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Olayinka said Atiku’s departure could help the PDP refocus, but added that his repeated exits over the years made the news unsurprising.
“My first reaction yesterday was that Atiku Abubakar leaving the PDP, to me, is good riddance to bad rubbish. In fact, the headline should have been: ‘Atiku Abubakar leaves PDP again,’ because since 2007, he has been leaving. If he chooses to leave now, fine—then the party can begin to rebuild itself,” Olayinka remarked.
He argued that Atiku’s political history is marked by serial defections and anti-party activities.
“In 2003, while Vice-President, he frustrated the PDP’s efforts to win Lagos State. In 2007, he became the first sitting vice president to defect, joining the Action Congress and contesting against his own party. In 2014, he led the rebellion that weakened the PDP and cost it power,” Olayinka alleged.
“The only thing that seems to matter to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is becoming Nigeria’s president. Sometimes I wonder if a doctor prescribed the presidency to him as a cure for something.”
On Atiku’s move to align with a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olayinka dismissed it as another chapter in Atiku’s well-known pattern:
“This experiment in their so‑called coalition—which I call a coalition of confusion—won’t last. When it fails, he’ll leave and probably return to the PDP, as he has always done.”
Olayinka also criticised the timing of Atiku’s announcement, noting that it came while the country was mourning the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari:
“Atiku had been in Daura. He couldn’t even wait for the seven‑day mourning period for Buhari to end before dropping his resignation letter. I don’t understand that level of desperation.”
While advising the PDP to reorganise, Olayinka admitted the party might not necessarily make a significant impact in the fast-approaching 2027 elections:
“The PDP must start putting its house in order. It may not necessarily translate into a good showing in 2027, but it is something we must begin now,” he concluded.
