The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Nureni Adeniran, has announced that the board is set to embark on large-scale construction and renovation of classrooms across all 33 Local Government Areas of the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Adeniran made this known while speaking at the Omituntun 2.0 Inter‑Ministerial Briefing held on Wednesday at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. His remarks were contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

According to him, Governor Makinde’s administration has approved a new wave of infrastructural projects for public basic schools in the state, further cementing its commitment to improving learning conditions.

Adeniran explained that policies implemented under the Makinde-led government in the basic education sector—covering primary and junior secondary schools—have drastically reduced infrastructural deficits and improved the quality of education.

He noted that over the years, the administration has strengthened the sector through massive training of teaching and non-teaching staff, recruitment of thousands of teachers, construction and renovation of classrooms, and procurement of essential school furniture.

“The governor began the task of repositioning the basic education sector in 2019. Within his first term, the government promptly paid UBEC counterpart funds for 2019, 2020, and 2021. This enabled SUBEB to implement numerous physical and human development programmes that uplifted the basic education sector,” Adeniran said.

He highlighted some achievements so far:

  • 13,859 teaching and non‑teaching staff trained,

  • 289 classroom blocks constructed and 60 model schools built,

  • 229 classroom blocks renovated,

  • 22,962 desks and benches and 1,189 teachers’ furniture procured,

  • 138 boreholes drilled, alongside the provision of motorcycles, computers, and digital tablets for schools.

Adeniran added that the state’s drive to reduce out‑of‑school children is paying off, with over 60,000 pupils returning to classrooms in recent years.

Speaking further on the ongoing phase, he revealed that the government has already paid counterpart funds for 2022 and 2023, unlocking over ₦2.6 billion in matching grants from the Federal Government through UBEC.

“The board has received approval to execute projects across all 33 LGAs, including the construction of 41 classroom blocks, seven perimeter fences, 30 boreholes, procurement of 5,828 pupils’ desks and benches, 473 teachers’ tables and chairs, 910 sports equipment, as well as the renovation of 60 classroom blocks,” he said.

Beyond these interventions, Adeniran disclosed that Oyo State will also embark on additional projects funded through rewards earned from its participation in the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, which targets reduction of out‑of‑school children.

“Governor Makinde insisted that the BESDA reward funds be channelled into infrastructure development in public primary schools. Consequently, new projects will soon take off across the 33 LGAs, including the construction of 28 classroom blocks, renovation of 29 classroom blocks, construction of four-compartment toilets with deep wells, sinking of 16 boreholes with tanks and stands, and procurement of 2,922 desks and benches alongside 182 teachers’ tables and chairs,” he explained.

Adeniran affirmed that these efforts will significantly enhance infrastructure and academic activities across Oyo State’s public primary schools.

ADC chieftain and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed calls for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, describing the push as unfair and politically motivated.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Momodu was reacting to comments by activist Zekeri Idris Jnr, a supporter of Peter Obi, who urged Atiku to step aside over concerns about his age, which would be about 80 by 2027.

In a post on his X handle on Saturday, Momodu said attention should be focused on holding the government accountable rather than targeting Atiku’s political ambition.

The exchange followed a viral video where Idris insisted that Atiku should support younger aspirants instead of contesting, arguing that voters would not back an elderly candidate.

Idris also suggested that Atiku should act as a statesman and support younger politicians such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others.

Responding, Momodu cited several world leaders who held office at advanced ages, arguing that experience should not be dismissed in leadership discussions.

He questioned what should disqualify Atiku from contesting, insisting that age alone is not a valid reason.

Atiku, who lost the 2023 presidential election to President Bola Tinubu, is reportedly considering another run in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
