PUNCH Online reports that the late president’s body is being transported aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading a high-level federal delegation to conclude documentation and oversee the logistics for the repatriation of Buhari’s remains.

On Monday, the Federal Government announced that President Bola Tinubu will personally receive Buhari’s body in Katsina ahead of the final interment in Daura.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, noting that the body is expected to arrive in Nigeria by noon on Tuesday.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will personally receive the remains of the former President in Katsina. Upon arrival, a brief military ceremony will hold at the airport before the body is taken to Daura. The Jana’iza (funeral prayer) will follow, after which he will be laid to rest at his residence,” Idris explained.

As part of national mourning, Tinubu has directed that condolence registers be opened across all federal ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as Nigerian embassies and missions worldwide. Another register will also be opened at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Idris added that condolence messages from world leaders continue to pour in, reflecting Buhari’s global stature and legacy.

To ensure what he described as a “dignified and well-coordinated programme,” the president has set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. The committee will work closely with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.

In addition, 25 members of the Federal Executive Council have been directed to travel to Katsina for the burial rites and remain in Daura for the third-day prayers scheduled for Wednesday.
