The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has voiced strong dissatisfaction over the sluggish progress at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex construction site.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Describing the pace of work as “grossly abysmal” and far below expectations, Ibas made the remarks on Friday during an inspection visit to the project site on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
His comments were contained in a statement issued later that evening by his media aide, Hector Igbikiowubo.
During the tour, the administrator also visited key sports facilities, including the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia and the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex, to assess their readiness to host major sporting events.
Speaking on the Assembly Complex, Ibas criticised the contractor for falling behind schedule and failing to deliver at the expected standard.
“Based on the consultants’ reports and what I’ve seen today, the contractor is not moving fast enough. The current pace is unacceptable,” he said.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Ibas ordered the contractor to accelerate the pace of work immediately, stressing the project’s strategic importance to the state.
“This project must not be delayed any further. It’s crucial, and we all need to do our part to meet the expectations of the people,” he declared.
To ensure accountability, the administrator disclosed plans to summon the contractor for a high-level meeting aimed at recalibrating the project delivery timeline and addressing lingering obstacles.
While inspecting the state’s sports infrastructure, Ibas praised the impressive achievements of Rivers youth in both national and international sporting events. He stressed the urgent need to upgrade facilities to support continued excellence.
“Our athletes are competing at continental levels, yet we lack suitable home grounds. That must change,” he said. “We’re here to assess and take decisive action.”
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to sports development, Ibas pledged to revamp the state’s infrastructure to ensure local athletes have access to world-class facilities.
He added, “The contractor handling the Assembly Complex has been directed to ramp up work without delay. A meeting will be held soon to eliminate bottlenecks and enforce adherence to project timelines.
“We are also working on comprehensive plans to upgrade sporting facilities across the state to attract major events and better support our talented athletes.”
Vice Admiral Ibas concluded by reiterating the state government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure excellence, transparency, and timely execution of all projects under his leadership.
